Artist's Statement

As owner and photographer of The Sanctuaryist, I create fine art images with a focus on nature and land/seascapes. Water, trees and the sun are primary recurring obsessions of my art.

Having grown up in the majestic mountains of Virginia, nature is deep in my blood. A journey westward in 2000 to the irresistibly picturesque San Francisco Bay area led to my first camera purchase and nothing has been the same for me since. It was like suddenly opening a door to a place I could call home. Relocating to Florida in 2010, felt the same way. There's something spiritual in the act of observing the world through the lens while being fully present and attuned to it at the same time. The vibrant landscape and colors of Florida's Gulf Coast have provided endless inspiration. Outdoor photography is a practice that connects you to nature, to a higher power, to yourself, and to then to the people who 'get it' when they view your work, as if they were there in the field with you all along. It's an art with the power to give us all a common ground. I like being a part of that.

I have more than fifteen years' experience chasing light and capturing nature's fleeting moments. I'm currently based in beautiful north-central Florida, where I find the landscape to be magical.
